The Van. Ski bum's best friend. We picked this one up in August off eBay. They're dime a dozen at the moment. 2006 Dodge Sprinter 2500 Super High Ceiling 158" WB w/ a Benz i5 turbo diesel and about 150k mi. After about $2500 into mechanical fixes we stripping the inside from the cab back down to bare metal. Waterproofing, sealing any holes with all weather silicon from Home Depot.
Next we lined the inside with FatMat (Approx. 2mm self adhesive noise/rattle killer). This pic is about halfway through the job. We also lined the ceiling and all the white metal you see.
Next we put in the floor. First lined the floor with 1" thick hard foam board insulation. Trimmed around the wheel wells. Sealed any cracks or connections between pieces with foil tape. The cut the wood pieces. 3/4" higher quality plywood with a finished side. They come in 4'x8' so we cut them so the breaks are from drivers side to passenger side. took 3 pieces.
Except for the tail end uses 2 pieces. This was only so we didn't have to buy another piece. Same with the foam boards. One the floor was in, drilled it down with wood-to-metal fine thread screws.
Finishing up insulation while starting to put up the walls. 2" foam board in the pockets along the walls and 1" in the ceiling. Foil tapped all cracks and connections. Used 12'x6" tongue and groove pine boards. The boards got screwed right into the metal along the walls.
Installed a flip up desk along the passenger side wall up front with a piece of left over from the floor boards. Connected to the wall with 2 hinges. Everything we got from Home Depot or Lowes. Building your own or have any questions call/text us 304-237-1604 or email boblilly@skiertrash.com
